HTML Documents & Field Guides

Right-click commands for the HTML branch of the Collections Tree, which holds the project's web pages and its virtual field guides.

Source resources: IDR_CT_HTML, IDR_CT_HTML_GROUP.

A field guide is a direct subfolder of the HTML root. That is the whole rule: such a folder gets the field-guide commands below, while anything else — a loose page, an asset file, or an asset folder (images, videos, menus, style) — gets the ordinary item menu.

See the Virtual Field Guide Editor guide for what a guide is and how to author one.

Field Guide Context Menu

Right-click a guide folder — a direct subfolder of HTML.

Actions

  • View Field Guide — Open the guide in the reader (the WEB panel), entering at its map page, and make it the active guide. (ID_FIELDGUIDE_VIEW)
  • Add Field Guide Template — Write the worked-example template (map, contents, four Days with Stops, and an info page) into this folder. Asks first if the guide already has pages. (ID_FIELDGUIDE_ADDTEMPLATE)
  • New Page — Add a page to this guide. (ID_FIELDGUIDE_NEWPAGE)
  • Open in Editor — Open the guide's contents page in the editor. (ID_FIELDGUIDE_OPEN)
  • Rename — Rename the guide folder. (ID_FIELDGUIDE_RENAME)
  • Delete Field Guide — Move the guide and all its pages to the project's RECYCLING folder. Any of its pages open in the editor are closed first, with the usual save prompt. (ID_FIELDGUIDE_DELETE)

Item Context Menu

Right-click an individual page, asset file, or asset folder under HTML.

Actions

  • Open in Editor — Open the page in the field guide editor. (ID_HTML_EDITDOCUMENT)
  • Copy HREF — Copy a link to this page, for pasting into another page. (ID_HTML_COPYHREF)
  • Open File Location — Open the containing folder in Windows Explorer. (ID_HTML_OPENFILELOCATION)
  • Group into Field Guide(loose items at the HTML root only) Move the selected pages and asset folders into a new field guide folder together. (ID_FIELDGUIDE_GROUP)
  • Delete File / Delete Folder — Move the selected file or folder to the project's RECYCLING folder. (ID_HTML_DELETEFILE)

Group Context Menu

Right-click the HTML parent group in the Collections Tree.

Actions

  • Rescan HTML Folder — Re-read the HTML folder and rebuild the branch. Use it after adding or removing pages outside VRGS. (ID_DEFAULTGROUP_RESCANHTMLFOLDER)
  • New Folder — Create a folder. A folder created directly under HTML becomes a new field guide. (ID_GROUPPOPUP_NEWFOLDER)
  • New HTML (blank) — Create an empty page. (ID_GROUPPOPUP_NEW)
Starting a guide

New Folder on the HTML branch, then Add Field Guide Template on the folder it creates, is the quickest way to a working guide.
