Data Tree
The Data Tree lists the spatial data in the project — the point clouds, meshes, tiled models, images and logs you import, and the annotations placed on them. It is the Data tab of the left panel.
Branches
The branches appear in this order. Each is always present, except the three marked as conditional.
| Branch | What it holds | Under each item | Right-click reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Point Clouds | Imported point clouds, in folders. | Attributes (one layer per attribute), Tie Points | Point Clouds, Attributes, Tie Points |
| Scan Positions | Scanner stations recorded with a point cloud. | — | Scan Positions |
| Photographs | Photographs placed in the scene as camera-oriented planes. | — | Photographs |
| Satellite Images | Georeferenced imagery (GeoTIFF, Sentinel SAFE, NASA downloads) draped as a plane. | Tie Points, Attributes | Satellite Images |
| Triangular Meshes | Textured meshes, in folders. | Attributes, Graph Networks, Textures, Paint Overlay Layers, Projective Images, Photogrammetric Images, Tie Points | Triangular Meshes and the pages listed below |
| Tiled Model | Streamed level-of-detail models: VRGS tiles, i3s/SLPK services. | Mesh Attributes, Tie Points | Tiled Model |
| Logs | Sedimentary logs. A Curves node lists the geophysical curves loaded into the project. | — | Logs |
| Waypoints | Named point annotations, placed by hand or captured from a GNSS receiver. | — | Waypoints |
| Stratigraphic Markers | Points carrying an age and unit names. | — | Stratigraphic Markers |
| Samples | Points at which attribute values were sampled. An Attributes node lists the sample table's columns. | — | Samples, Sample Attributes |
| Ground Control Points | Surveyed control points with accuracies. | — | Ground Control Points |
| Labels | Text labels placed in the scene. | — | Labels |
| CT Image Stack (licence: CT Image; Vulkan renderer) | Voxel models built from image stacks. | attribute layers | CT Image Stack, Voxel Attributes |
| Multimedia | Image, video and audio annotations attached to a location. | — | Multimedia |
| Billboards | Camera-facing image panels, in folders. | — | Billboards |
| Scale Bars | Scale-bar reference objects. | — | Scale Bars |
| VRGS Earth | Globe models. | — | VRGS Earth |
| Ortho Panels | Orthographic projection panels rendered from the model. | — | Ortho Panels |
| Seismic Volumes (licence: Seismic; Vulkan renderer) | SEG-Y seismic volumes and synthetic seismic sections. | — | Seismic Volumes |
| Geotours (only after signing in to the GeoTour platform) | The outcrop models available to you online. Double-click one to download and open it; models that cannot be downloaded are marked (no download). | — | — |
Under a mesh
Each mesh under Triangular Meshes carries seven nodes, documented on their own pages:
- Attributes — the mesh's attribute layers: Attributes.
- Graph Networks — networks derived from the mesh: Graph Networks.
- Textures — the texture images applied to the mesh: Textures.
- Paint Overlay Layers — facies paint layers; the one you are painting into is badged Active: Paint Overlay Layers.
- Projective Images — images projected onto the mesh from a camera position: Projective Images.
- Photogrammetric Images — the photographs a mesh was built from, with their camera positions: Photogrammetric Images and Photogrammetric Source.
- Tie Points — the mesh's own georeferencing corrections: Tie Points.
A point cloud carries Attributes and Tie Points; a satellite image carries Tie Points and Attributes; a tiled model carries Mesh Attributes and Tie Points.
Shared menus
Twelve of the branches have no menu of their own and use the standard group and item menus. They are listed, with the menus, on the Standard Item and Group Menus page.
Not in the Data tree
- GIS layers. There is no GIS branch in the current release. Shapefiles are imported as polylines from the Interpretation tree (Polylines → Import).
- SfM workflows have their own SFM tab, described in the SfM user guide.
- Panels, XY Plots, Fire Fountain and Snow Effect appear only in developer builds.
Interactions
- Tick an item to show it. Ticking a mesh or point cloud that is not loaded loads it in the background; the tick appears once the data is in memory.
- Make Active (or Set As Active) on a mesh or point cloud makes it the target of the context-sensitive ribbon tab and of the interpretation tools.
- Double-click a mesh or point cloud to navigate to it; double-click a log or a photograph to open it in its own window.
- Drag items between folders. Folders are made with Group on a selection or New Sub Group on a branch.
The behaviours common to all three trees are on the Project Trees overview.
